Ensuring the perspectives and priorities of conflict-affected communities inform peace and peacebuilding - sharing research from South Sudan
The Network for Conflict Prevention and Peacebuilding is pleased to invite for this event on South Sudan held by Oxfam IBIS.
Oxfam IBIS’ Peacebuilding Programme has a particular focus on supporting and enabling inclusive peace processes. This means ensuring women and young people are able to both meaningfully engage and influence a process. It also means that peace processes should be informed by a wider set of perspectives and priorities from the communities affected by conflict. As part of Oxfam IBIS’ Peacebuilding Programme, earlier this year we commissioned a series of perception surveys on peace and social cohesion relating to the South Sudan peace process. The survey draws on close to 700 respondents' perspectives, from both Government and Opposition-held areas inside South Sudan, as well as refugee communities in Uganda. The survey will serve as a key baseline both for our programmatic work, and for Oxfam's advocacy/influencing engagements calling for more inclusive peacebuilding processes, including in the context of the post-agreement phase we are now in. To coincide with the 5th Anniversary of the outbreak of the most recent conflict in South Sudan, the Network for Conflict Prevention and Peacebuilding will host a briefing spotlighting the findings from this recent survey, as well as other recent research, which will in turn inform a discussion regarding possible trajectories going forward.
