You are most welcome to participate no matter if you represent a small NGO, are a volunteer, work in research or come fr om a large international NGO.\n \nIn December 2019, the UN Resolution of th e Promotion and protection of the rights of children specifically focused, for the first time ever, on children without parental care in recognition o f the vulnerability of this group of children. The purpose of these seminar s is to explore how to use the Resolution and the UN Guidelines for the Alt ernative Care of Children, in order to safeguard and promote the rights of children who have lost, or are at risk of losing, parental care. The semina rs offer expert presentations on topics related to the Resolution and an op portunity to discuss and share experiences to learn from promising practice s and improve the protection and the quality of alternative care.\n \nThe o bjectives of the seminar is to:\n1) Increase knowledge on how to work with a rights-based approach to protect children from, and put an end to, domest ic violence through expert presentations and working in groups with concret e examples. \n2) Share ideas and successful practices among us on how to ad dress the issues of domestic violence and how it affects children.\n3) Disc uss how to work within different cultural settings and with consideration f or gender differences. \nThe seminar will be facilitated by Dr. Chrissie G ale, who also introduced the UN Resolution on the Rights of the Child in th e previous seminar. There are links between domestic violence and child abuse, neglect and abandonment globally. Furthe rmore, domestic violence is a significant factor related to children are lo sing parental care. The causes of violence are multi-faceted and stems from various interlinking individual and situational factors. How different cul tures approach these issues are rarely shared. The subject of this seminar is therefore highly relevant for any organization working with a rights-bas ed approach to protect children from, and putting an end to, violence withi n families and communities both on a national and global level.
